Covering the Arts (MMC 6936) is an applied course for masters students interested in reporting on the visual and performing arts. The course is one of fewer than a dozen such classes offered in U.S. journalism programs.

Covering the Arts  is taught by Dr. Johanna Cleary, an assistant professor in the telecommunication department at the University of Florida. Cleary worked for 25 years in journalism, including stints in public television, commercial and public radio, and newspapers. She was also a marketing and public relations practitioner for media and arts organizations. As news director at Alabama Public Television, Cleary developed a pilot statewide arts program.
